Michael, I know I was saying that from before then :) -- there was a reason the folks in charge were letting him have the stage and the microphone, after all. It may not ever happen that he reveals his integrity, true. But as I said in the article at the time, we can't rely on him -- it's up to us. WE are the ones who need to grow some balls and start running the country like WE own it. We need to stare down the corporatetocracy and tell them to leave the building, now. That we're onto them and we're not playing along anymore.

Suzanne, you are aware, aren't you that Obamabots have been saying things like "My take on it is that Obama is an unwilling participant in the game and that when coming events unfold, his integrity will reveal itself … " since around January 20th, waiting for the guy to grow some balls, and predicting that it will happen soon. . . . and that it keeps not happening. It ain't gonna happen: every day that goes by he cements himself further into the policies he campaigned against, and it gets worse and worse, not better and better.

I wrote before Obama was elected that his chief importance was the fire for change he ignited in the people. There were plenty of glowing embers already; he caused them to catch hold and coalesce. But he was unlikely to be able to bring about change on his own. The entrenched interests would be there waiting behind the scenes to take charge of the next show. It would be up to the people to lead Obama, I wrote. It looks like I was correct.

And now the people are pushing. William Greider and Susan Antilla point out, "public anger is now gathering force & scaring the bejeesus out of Washington pols". (Greider: Charitable Capitalism http://bit.ly/bY5ag ; Susan Antilla: Main Street Tells Wall Street, ‘Get a Real Job’ http://bit.ly/3tH8Kp) My take on it is that Obama is an unwilling participant in the game and that when coming events unfold, his integrity will reveal itself ... in the next few months we'll know whether this theory is supported or dashed. But that doesn't mean I'm just watching and waiting to see what he and Congress does. I'm actively participating.

I agree with what John Pilger said at the end of that speech -- very good links, Dave Parker, by the way -- "My guess is that something [a populist movement] is coming again. ... What Obama and the bankers and [the powers that be] fear is ordinary people coming together and acting together. It's a fear as old as democracy... that suddenly people convert their anger to action. At a time of universal deceit, wrote George Orwell, telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

I share your enthusiasm, and second your demands of Obama. But has he already been corrupted by the economic hit men who drove us into this ditch and now advise him? What makes us think he's not party to it?

He's a wholly-owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs, just like our Treasury and the Fed. "Presidents who don't play ball with these interests," Russ Baker said on GRITtv 11/16/2009, "find themselves in very serious trouble." http://lauraflanders.firedoglake.com/2009/11/12/russ-baker-john-perkins/

It's obvious that the economic hit men are in the freakin' White House. So, in effect, you're asking Obama to go the way of Jaimie Roldos, and Omar Torillos: reject these interests and face the jackals. I don't see it happening.

I agree with John Perkins: our president is not ours alone. And John Pilger tells us what he really is: a creation of our corporatocracy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXL998q7skI

I remember how the networks and DNC colluded to select the candidates for us, mostly by excluding my candidate, Kucinich. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/15/nbc-appeals-ruling-on-adding-kucinich-to-debate/?hp

Barack Obama has more in common with EHMs than MLK, I'm afraid.
