Obama Picks Up Another Historic Electoral College Win

Nebraska is one of only a couple states that do not have a winner take all system and Nebraska in particular splits their five electors for the electoral college based on both congressional district wins as well as overall statewide popular vote.

Today, the Omaha World-Herald announced: “For the first time ever, a blue circle will appear in Nebraska on national electoral maps.” Obama will take 1 elector, and McCain 4, instead of McCain taking all 5 electors as previously reported on CNNs electoral college map.

Senator Ben Nelson a leading conservative Democrat and the junior Senator from Nebraska celebrated Obama’s victory in Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district as “an ‘Obamaha’ shaped exclamation point to Barack Obama’s historic election. It really is a new day in America when he even picks up an electoral vote in Nebraska.”

Yesterday, the Washington Post reported this Obama pickup as likely. Today, history was confirmed. Yet as of 7 pm PDT, CNN is still behind the ball, showing McCain with all five Nebraska electoral college votes in the screen shot of the cable network’s electoral map to the right, an hour after being alerted by The Public Record. Check CNN’s electoral college map here to see if and when they correct their map.
