Automatic weapons have been illegal since 1934 except to those who apply for and are cleared for a special permit. Do your research next time.

I do however, find it somewhat funny that you denounce violent crime in one paragraph and then decry what you term “stiff sentences” for criminals. It CAN’T be a lack of personal responsibility on the part of those who burgled, robbed, stole, or victimized others, it’s got to be those darn guns. Wonderful.

“A big factor in the homicide rate is the availability of guns”.
Let’s not blame the inanimate objects again and again. As far as armed robberies, especially in big cities, the “availability of guns” applies to criminals because the honest law abiding citizens are usually not allowed to carry a gun to defend themselves in a metro area (Boston, NY, DC, etc). We continue to make gun laws but they only effect citizens who obey the law. Criminals do not obey the law nor do they have to. They do not have to pass a Brady background check, they just steal a gun. They do not have to apply for a concealed carry permit, they just put the gun in their pocket.
