There is no case law in support of Nadler's contention. there have been only a handful of cases even defining a "bill of attainder" . There are no cases stating that Congress cutting off federal funding is the equivalent of punishment and therefore unconstitutional.

70 ACORN employees have been convicted of crimes committed in the course of their work for ACORN and ”numerous investigations, indictments, and prosecutions currently pending against ACORN and its staff throughout the nation.”

Who needs attainder to put ACORN out of business?

Let's look at the facts, that ignornant bloogers put forth:

"Here's how the deal works: Liberal politicians ensure that ACORN continues to receive federal grants through agencies like the Department of Housing and Urban Development and, in turn, ACORN turns out shock troops to support liberal programs and candidates.

Before yesterday's historic vote, no fewer than seven amendments that would have prohibited or conditioned the receipt of federal funds by ACORN were defeated by the majority Democrats in the House in the past year. In one case, House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich., said that "the powers that be" in the Democratic-controlled House had put a stop to an investigation of the group."

"Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich argues that in light of the new evidence implicating ACORN in criminal activities, Congress should support a thorough, independent investigation of ACORN's octopus-like structure. Gingrich lauds the 345 members of Congress who voted to cut off taxpayer funds to the organization earlier this week but advises Congress to take further actions to avoid repeating the mistakes it made by funding ACORN for so many years."

:seems like a pretty ignorant arguement, who knows what other misleading statements "the congress" makes when this "poor organization" is questioned about it's practice.

Or maybe we could ask a former ACORN employee herself, one that is facing a lawsuit from this "poor organization."

There is more ignorance and nonsense over Acorn than I have heard on antthing in my life. I have seen ignorant bloggers claim acorn gets 8.5 Billion dollars when they only receive 4 million-or less than 10 cents per member. The stupidest one is that this poor organization gives money to candidates. They can't and they don't. Some of you idiots should do a little fact checking-but then facts have nothing to do with it. Of course I would like to see a full investigation and ACORN should ask for one. When the Congress uses doctored tapes on Fox as evidence we are slding down the slippery slope to totalitarianism. The real issue is that a lot of people, Republican, Democratic, and Independent don't want poor people to vote. Here in Minnesota Acorn has about ten paid staff and none make much dough-but they did piss off the big money by registering poor voters. Acorn has not been convicted of any crime
anywhere. Besides if that were a criterion for federal funding Boeing, General Electric, and Blackwater would all be gone.

So let's see, it's not unconstitutional to fund them, but it's unconstitutional not to give our tax money to them.

That's Democrat politics for you.

What needs to be investigated here is how much money ACORN has given to Rep Jerrold Nadler and the 74 other Representatives the House, as well as the Senate 7.

I didn't realize there was a Constitutional Ammendment guaranteeing ACORN funds. That must be the 42nd Ammendment or something.

Do you like how this story keeps saying that there are claims that ACORN broke the law? How about the 40+ convictions in 14 states against ACORN. Now that you are aware of the convictions, Rep Jerrold Nadler, are you satisfied that the Bill of Attainder is not an issue, or did ACORN just pay you to much money to vote against them?

To the author of this story, Mr Jason Leopold, you should be ashamed to call yourself a journalist for trying to slant a story to make it look like ACORN has never been convicted of anything. This is clearly a corrupt organization, for which Barack Obama was an attorney, trainer, speaker, and community organizer. I guess now that we have seen the first five ACORN videos, we now know what a community organizer does.
